How Laws to Protect Biodiversity Backfired on Scientists Trying to Save It - The Wire

The Wire
The legal fences around biodiversity research are so strong that it even thwarts basic research and international collaborations. The remedy, the signatories have argued, is a separate agreement to ensure fewer restrictions on academic research.

Exposure Biology Research Group (EBRG)

Boston, Massachusetts - United States

The Exposure Biology Research Group (EBRG), directed by Dr. Michael McClean, is an interdisciplinary research group in the department of Environmental Health at the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH). Our primary research focus is on the use of biological markers to assess environmental and occupational exposures via multiple pathways with respect to exposure-related disease. The EBRG consists of a research coordinator, eight research assistants, five doctoral students, and space within the 3,500 square foot Environmental Health Laboratory - shared by Dr. McClean and three other faculty members in the department of Environmental Health. Our laboratory is equipped with a range of direct reading field instruments (Innov-X Portable XRF Analyzer, TSI Sidepaks, personal air sampling pumps, etc.) as well as equipment necessary to collect, process and store environmental and biological samples in support of extensive field investigations. Several of the research staff are trained and experienced phlebotomists. Explore our website to obtain further information.

Bulgaria

The Marine Biology research group is a scientific unit of the Ghent University. Our mission is to understand the sea. We are convinced that our marine research both leads to fundamental scientific insights in the ecology and evolution of marine ecosystems and contributes to the sustainable management and exploitation of 'the last wilderness'. Since the seventies, the Marine Biology research group is working in the marine environment and has spec

Ecotoxicology and Aquatic Biology Research Group
United Kingdom

The Ecotoxicology and Aquatic Biology Research Group is a large, dynamic group studying the effects of environmental pollutants on aquatic wildlife and investigating the basic physiology of fish. Key areas of our ecotoxicology work are endocrine disruption and the biological effects of nanoparticles. Our work on pollutants span studies investigating the mechanisms of effect in individuals to population-level impacts. Long-term exposure effects to
