Mathematical Biology at UBC

Vancouver, BC - Canada

Welcome to the website for the Mathematical Biology Group at UBC. We do interdisciplinary research applying mathematics in a wide range of biological fields including immunology, epidemiology, cell biology, electrophysiology, ecology, game theory and evolution. Our group, consisting of eight core faculty, many affiliated faculty in mathematics and elsewhere, and a good number of postdoctoral researchers and graduate students, is one of the best-established and largest in the field.

We teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematical biology. Graduate students receive degrees (Master's and PhD) as members of the UBC Institute of Applied Mathematics. We recruit from many different backgrounds, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, bioinformatics, engineering and the biological sciences. We often supervise undergraduate thesis projects (for instance, from the Biophysics and Integrated Science programs) and take on summer research undergraduate students.

Mathematical Biology
United Kingdom

Mathematical Biology is an web resource for Academics, Researchers, Publishers and Sponsors in Mathematical Biology. The main purpose of the site is to collect information and links related to research and teaching in all Mathematical Problems of Biology, that our visitors could use in their business. Web-directory covers a wide Scientific and Organisational scopes and also the problems related to the mathematical modelling of main mechanisms of

Society for Mathematical Biology
United States

The Society for Mathematical Biology is an international society which exists to promote and foster interactions between the mathematical and biological sciences communities through membership, journal publications, travel support and conferences.

Mathematical Biology at Duke University
United States

The Mathematics Department has a large group of mathematicians who work on specific biological and medical applications and as well as the development of new applied mathematical techniques and new theorems inspired by biological applications. The range of applications is large and the mathematical techniques diverse, including dynamical systems, partial differential equations, stochastics dynamics, fluid dynamics, geometry, topology, and algebra

Centre for Mathematical Biology at University of Oxford
United Kingdom

The Centre for Mathematical Biology (CMB) at the University of Oxford is part of the Mathematical Institute and was established in 1983 as the first centre of its kind in Britain. Under the directorship of Professor James D. Murray, FRS, it was designed specifically to foster interdisciplinary research in the area. Since 1992, the CMB has been under the leadership of Professor Philip K. Maini. In 2005, Dr Ruth E. Baker was appointed the RCUK Fell

Mathematical and Theoretical Biology Institute (MTBI)
United States

Established in 1996 at Cornell University, the Mathematical and Theoretical Biology Institute (MTBI) was moved to Arizona State University in the spring of 2004. With the culmination of the 2006 summer institute, MTBI has mentored 277 undergraduate participants who have produced 111 technical reports. The Mathematical and Theoretical Biology Institute supports the development of students through educational, research and mentorship activities fro

University of Dundee: Mathematical Biology Courses
United Kingdom

The University of Dundee has a long history of mathematical biology, going back to Professor Sir D'Arcy Wentworth Thompson, Chair of Natural History, 1884-1917. Current mathematical biology research in Dundee continues in the spirit of D'Arcy Thompson with the application of modern applied mathematics and computational modelling to a range of biological processes involving many different but inter-connected phenomena that occur at different s

United States

The Carl Correns Foundation for Mathematical Biology sustains a working group of researchers with a theoretical focus who work on the frontiers of the biological sciences. supports project-based scholarships in selected areas of expertise, currently neuroscience and cancer research. works with experimental scientists who host projects and interact with theoretical researchers. The mission of the Carl Correns Foundation for Mathematical Biology

Institute for Complex Systems and Mathematical Biology (ICSMB)
United Kingdom

The Institute for Complex Systems and Mathematical Biology (ICSMB) has as its unifying intellectual theme the study of complex dynamics and its applications. Since applications of complex dynamics necessarily involve bridging gaps between abstract concepts, on the one hand, and the scientific disciplines, and engineering, medical and social fields where the applications occur, on the other, the Institute devotes special effort to facilitate cross

ESMTB is a nonprofit organisation. The purpose of the society is to promote theoretical approaches and mathematical tools in biology and medicine in a European and wider context. This goal is pursued by the organization of summer schools and conferences, by the European Communications (the former Newsletter) and the pokies australia information on our web-site. The ESMTB board organizes the activities of the society according to the ESMTB statute

UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research

As Canada's oldest continuously operated university-based botanical garden, we steward a living and growing repository of wild-collected germplasm representing the plant biodiversity of selected native and international biomes. The total collection of approximately 120,000 accessioned plants represents some 6,000 taxa and includes major international collections of Magnolia, Acer (maples), Sorbus (mountain ash), Styracaceae (storax family) and Rh
