Science Daily
Scientists are looking to rewrite the textbook on microbial ecology. When it comes to microbe species, they argue, niche is much more important than names. In microbial systems, hundreds of species can co-exist and perform the same biochemical ...

Population Ecology Group

Esporles (Balearic Islands) - Spain

With the recent developments in applied mathematics and molecular techniques, we believe that the classical view of Ecology, Conservation, Evolution and Genetics as different disciplines no longer holds. Our research interest is right at the intersection of these disciplines and we focus on applied as well as theoretical aspects of population functioning and management. Our main interest is in the study of population dynamics and evolutionary demography. We base our research on long-terms individual based data of several vertebrates including birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

Population ecology is a major sub-field of ecology that deals with the dynamics of species populations and how these populations interact with the environment. It is the study of how the population sizes of species living together in groups change over time and space. The development of population ecology owes much to demography and actuarial life tables. Population ecology is important in conservation biology, especially in the development of po

The Society of Population Ecology was founded in 1961 for the purpose of promoting and fostering the study of population ecology. Now the activities of both the society and its publication cover broader aspects of population ecology and population biology, in both basic and applied fields. Membership is open to persons interested in population ecology and related fields of the biological sciences.
