Southern Alberta Cancer Research Institute (SACRI)

Calgary, Alberta - Canada

The Southern Alberta Cancer Research Institute (SACRI) brings together researchers and physicians using the latest advances in medicine and science to determine the most effective treatments, to understand cancer causation, to explain trends in cancer incidence and mortality, and to improve the scientific knowledge of all aspects of the cancer continuum. SACRI originated in 2003 as a partnership between the University of Calgary's Faculty of Medicine and Alberta Health Services (formerly AHS-ACB). The Institute's primary role is to integrate cancer research across all disciplines - fundamental, translational, patient-based, and population health - throughout Southern Alberta.

The mission of the Southern Alberta Cancer Research Institute is "To create a community for innovative cancer research and training which is dedicated to achieving a cancer-free future".

SACRI's goals and objectives are:
* To establish and maintain a sustainable core funding for research, business and technology infrastructure
* To create a strengthened environment for team science between cancer researchers locally, across the province, and on an international scale by bringing together researchers through collaborations and partnerships
* To recruit and retain the best researchers and core facility leaders by creating an environment that supports and promotes their research activities
