Human Exceptionalism — An Evolutionary Dilemma - Discovery Institute

Discovery Institute
Prominent high school biology textbook author Kenneth Miller is worried about human evolution. He's worried about it, specifically, as a sticking pointing for many people when it comes to accepting the whole edifice of Darwinism. I'm sure he's right ...

The Human Respiratory System

Aurora, Illinois - United States

The respiratory system helps to breathe - which is inhaling oxygen so that it can be distributed to each cell in the body and collect the waste product carbon dioxide from the cells and expel it back to the atmosphere. The human respiratory system consists of: the nasal passages, Pharynx, Larynx, Windpipe, Lungs. The exchange of the gases - replenishing the blood with oxygen and removing carbon dioxide from it - happens in the lungs. We breathe about 6 liters of air every minute. The adult lungs have the capacity to hold about 3 liters of air. When we breathe, the air first enters the body through the nose or the mouth and enters the trachea. The trachea splits into two bronchi - one going to each lung. Each bronchus continues to divide into narrower and narrower bronchi ending up as microscopic alveoli. The walls of alveoli are single celled through which the blood can exchanges the carbon dioxide with oxygen from the fresh air in the lungs. Explore the website to obtain more information.

This system includes the lungs, pathways connecting them to the outside environment, and structures in the chest involved with moving air in and out of the lungs. Air enters the body through the nose, is warmed, filtered, and passed through the nasal cavity. Air passes the pharynx (which has the epiglottis that prevents food from entering the trachea). The upper part of the trachea contains the larynx. The vocal cords are two bands of tissue t

Human Anatomy & Physiology of the Respiratory System
United States

We often complete the daily tasks of living without thinking about the respiratory system. We breathe in and out and take for granted one of our most vital organ systems. The respiratory system provides the oxygen necessary to sustain life. It consists of both upper and lower respiratory tracts. It is divided into two functions: conducting and respiration.

Introductory Anatomy: Respiratory System
United Kingdom

The word respiration describes two processes. Internal or cellular respiration is the process by which glucose or other small molecules are oxidised to produce energy: this requires oxygen and generates carbon dioxide. External respiration (breathing) involves simply the stage of taking oxygen from the air and returning carbon dioxide to it. The respiratory tract, where external respiration occurs, starts at the nose and mouth. (Description

Dictionary Definitions : Respiratory System
United States

The respiratory system is the set of organs that allows a person to breathe and exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide throughout the body. An example of respiratory system is the human's nasal passages, larynx, trachea, bronchial tubes and lungs.
