University of Southern Denmark: Nucleic Acid Center

Copenhagen - Denmark

NAC (Nucleic Acid Center) is a Research Center established in 2001, based on fundings from The Danish National Research Foundation for studies on Nucleic Acid Chemical Biology.

The idea of the research center was to combine synthetic organic chemistry and the encoded recognition pattern of nucleic acids in novel innovative and creative ways.

The research center is located at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, joining the major research areas of nucleic acid chemical biology under one roof.

Nucleic Acid
United States

Nucleic acids are the principle genetic materials of all living organisms. They are complex macromolecule containing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and phosphorous. Living organisms contain nucleic acid in the form of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid(RNA). Some viruses contain only RNA(viroids) e.g. TMV(tobacco mosaic Virus) , poliomyelitis virus. Some viruses contain DNA only ex: bacteriophages, Vaccinia and Adenoviruses.
